Portraits & Self-portraits preview. Assigned 10/17, due 10/22 - Minor (first grade of the 2nd 9 weeks)

Self Portrait and Portraits Intro

Since I am not here today, and you guys aren't ready to meet for the mural project without me there, we will have to move ahead with another preview assignment for another photo shoot that you will do after the mural projects are completed. We shouldn't be here, but because you guys couldn't handle a day when I was gone, this is what has to happen. 

For this assignment, there is NO reason for you to move from your desk, and you can do this without me there. So stay in your seats and complete this task. Know that you will be asked to take both a portrait and a self-portrait in the future and they need to be well done. So take the time to do this assignment and think hard about what kind of portrait and self-portrait you might want to take. Be creative and plan ahead. At some point you will get a camera to take these photos AT HOME away from the campus.

Go take a look at these FOUR websites. Make sure to create a new Google Site subpage called Portraits and Self-portraits Preview and do all of the tasks below. Don't forget to do a screenshot, you need to press Shift-Command-F4 and then draw the cursor over the image you want to take a screenshot of.

After looking at these, find what you think are the best 2 or 3 tips and copy and paste them into a new post on your Google Site (I don’t need 2-3 tips from each site, but 2-3 total, but please look at all four sites).

When you go out to shoot these types of photos, there are three main types of portraits, the environmental portrait, a self-portrait and a casual portrait. Lets go find some examples of these types of images.

Please write at least a paragraph telling me your plan for your portrait assignment. Answer the following questions: who will you shoot, where will you shoot, and what will you do to make the shot successful.

Be specific on all three answers. When I read it I should know who and where you will take the photos and I should know exactly what your plan is to make sure you get a quality photo.  Think about composition when you are planning these. I really want your self-portrait to be a more than just a selfie. I want to see insight into you. Who are you? What defines you? How can you give me a little insight into what makes you tick or something that you get up to do every day? What is your passion? These thoughts should come out in your work.
